Armando Aguirre

Armando Aguirre earned his bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the University of Texas at Dallas. His studio practice draws on his Mexican American heritage, weaving together a love of Mexican Muralism, Chicano culture, graffiti color palettes, and Aztec mythology.

“My work translates the pride I feel as a first generation Mexican American. I honor the past by pulling inspiration from Aztec symbolism and Chicano art. Painting figures who share my own skin deepens my bond with my community. Through these images I hope to capture my family’s hustle, sacrifice, and beauty, and to embody the influence they have had on my life.”
