Brandon Adams

Raised in Greenville, Texas, the small town just beyond Dallas that his family has long called home, Brandon Adams traces his love of art back to music. His parents nurtured that appreciation early, filling his childhood with the sounds that shaped the cultural shifts of the 1960s and 1970s. Over time his portrait subjects widened from musicians to celebrated figures whose zest for life left a mark on others. Comedians, Presidents, inventors, athletes and coaches all appear in his work, yet status is never the point; he is drawn to what he calls “infectious personalities,” people whose drive and determination inspired those around them. Each subject is chosen for the passion behind their talent. A 1997 graduate of the Art Institute of Dallas, Adams has served as a creative director for a range of agencies and corporations. Color has been the through-line of his career and the signature of his style, pulling viewers toward a product the way blossoms draw bees. Through color he gives every character's emotions a life of their own. He works across acrylic, spray paint, stain, water and oils, layering these mediums to build the complexity and rich texture that define his pieces, and he folds in varieties of wood and defining elements to represent each character.
